The spate of fire incidences across the country in recent times, has caught up with Search FM Station of the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna campus, destroying property and equipment worth millions of Naira. The early morning fire which raz d down the building housing the radio station located at the university campus in Gida Magoro is suspected to have been caused by an electrical fault. The institution's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Musibau Akanji, speaking at the scene of the burnt Search FM Station however explained that the school authority has launched a full investigation into the cause of the fire which razed the three year old radio station which recently won the best campus radio station award during the just concluded Radio Nigeria Awards.
The Vice-Chancellor promised to get the station back on air as soon as possible. Meanwhile, the station is functional now at the temporal site but he promised to relocate it back to the permanent site at gidan kwano where the incident happened. He made this point during one of the station's program tagged "My V.C must hear this" in bosso campus.MEANWHILE: The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Musbau Adewumi Akanji, FNSBMB has inaugurated the new management board of Search FM 92.3 with a charge to nurture the station and enforce the ethics of National Broadcasting Commission (NBC). The inauguration ceremony took place on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at the Senate Chamber, Main Campus. While inaugurating the board, Prof. Akanji congratulated the members of the board and urged them to keep up the standard of the radio station.
The VC tasked the board members to ensure that the station serves as a training medium and provide exposure to students in media related courses in the institution. Speaking further, he lauded the radio station for its effective programming and thanked he students volunteer for their sacrifices to the growth of the radio station while assuring the Board members that the station will be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities when moved to the Main Campus. Responding on behalf of the board, the Chairman, Dr. Segun Oyero thanked the university management for the responsibility vested on the members and promised to adhere strictly to the ethics of NBC.
Other members of the board are; Dr. Abdulmojeed Ijaiya (patron), Mrs. Aisha L. Zakari,Dr. Nicholas S. Iwokwha, Mr. Steve Ogirima, Mrs. Lydia Legbo, Mr. Gbolahan Balogun, Mr. Kingsley Oguche, two representatives from the Students' Union Government while Mr. Shaaban Usman will serve as the board secretary. The board's terms of reference are; to serve as the management board for the station, ensure that the station provides constant connection to the university and all that it stands for through rich quality programming, ensure that the station provide an avenue for the training and provide exposure to students in the media related courses, such as Information & Media Technology department and other matters as may be directed by the Vice-Chancellor.
